MARIETTA — It was quite a day for Bailey Russell.

Russell not only had a game-high 28 points but also eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring milestone as the Fairland Lady Dragons outscored the Parkersburg Big Reds 74-60 in the River City Classic at Marietta College on Friday.

Besides her point total, Russell also had 5 steals and 4 rebounds. Addison Godby had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Frances Guice scored 20 points, Lauren Flanagan got 16 and Kennedy Porter added 12 for Parkersburg (5-1).

Parkersburg came out hot and took a 25-22 lead.

Flanagan hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points, Guice had a 3-pointer and scored 7 points and Sophie Lott added 5 points including a triple.

Russell scored 7 points, Godby 6, Ava Layne 4 and Taegan Leep hit a 3-pointer for Fairland.

Godby had a trey and scored 8 points with Layne adding a 3-pointer as Fairland rallied to take a 38-34 lead at the half.

The Big Red cut the deficit to 58-55 in the third quarter as Flanagan hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points and Porter netted 7 points.

Russell took over in the third quarter for the Lady Dragons with a trio of 3-pointers as she scored 12 of Fairland’s 20 points.

The fourth quarter was pivotal as Fairland outscored Parkersburg 16-5 to pull away to the win.

Russell had 7 points including a triple with Kamryn Barnitz getting 4 points including a 3-pointer as 5 different players scored for Fairland.

Fairland faces Wheeling Park on Saturday.
