Virginia Urian

Virginia Pauline “Polly” Urian, 94, of Ironton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1930, in Chillicothe, to her late parents, Ernest D. Cockerell and Alyce Coder Cockerell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Victor V. Urian.

She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Polly was a registered nurse for 20 years at Lawrence County General Hospital.

She was a member of Resurrection Hope United Methodist Church and lived in Lawrence County for most of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son; David B. Urian and her daughter; Mary Catherine Unger, and her brother; James Cockerell.

Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Kara (Bobby) Cleary, Dustin Urian-Fuller, Kyle Urian-Bishop; great-grandsons, Kaden Cleary and David Urian-Fuller; her sister-in-law, Mary Jean Cockerell; many nieces, nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

At Polly’s request, there was a private graveside service at White Chapel Memorial Garden, Barboursville, West Virginia, with Terry Jones officiating.
