CCTC e-sports team also honored
The Lawrence County Commissioners offered their congratulations to the Ironton Fighting Tigers at their meeting on Monday for their victory in the state championship this month.
“It’s been an exciting time watching them all year,” Commission President Colton Copley said. “And especially during these playoff runs.”
Copley said the first title for a school in the county in 35 years was something for everyone to be proud of and referred to the team as a “first class group.”
Commissioner DeAnna Holliday said, even more than winning the title, she was “most proud” of the way the team conducted themselves after the game, as they “came together in prayer.”
“Seeing the character of those young men, they stood up and presented great leadership,” she said.
Commissioner Mike Finley gave credit to the coaching staff for their impact on the team members.
The commissioners said they planned to host the team at the courthouse for their first meeting of 2025, where they will present them with a congratulatory proclamation.
In other business, the commissioners presented Collins Career Technical Center’s e-sports team, Chaos, with a proclamation, honoring them for their achievements in the two-year program, including the recent win of a state tournament.
Team members were present to receive the honor, as well as individual plaques.
The rest of the meeting was dedicated to final business of the year, including approval of funds and collective bargaining agreements, as well as approving the public comment policy for the commission meetings.
An executive session took place following the public portion of the meeting.
