CHESAPEAKE — Getting a big jump in the game gave the Chesapeake Panthers a big jump to start the season.

The Panthers opened up a 23-point first half lead and went on to beat the Rock Hill Redmen 54-31 in their season opener.

Chesapeake (1-0, 1-0) had 3 players in double figures for the Ohio Valley Conference game as Maddox Case scored 16 lints, Karson Frecka 14 and Kaden Perkins 12.

Karson Frecka scored 4 points and Drew Plantz hit a 3-pointer as the Panthers took a 9-2 first quarter lead.

Chesapeake extended the lead to 29-6 at the half as Maddox Kazee drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the quarter. Plantz added another trey and Kaden Perkins scored 4 points.

Frecka and Perkins scored 6 points each in the third quarter as the Panthers built a 50-23 lead.

The Redmen finally got their offense going with 17 points in the quarter.

Stephen Ison nailed a pair of 3-pointers, Yaden Bailey hit a 3-pointer as he scored 5 points and Kelan Davidson added 4 points.

Both teams emptied their benches in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill outscored the Panthers 7-4.

Bailey led Rock Hill (1-2, 0-1) with 10 points.
