SOUTH POINT — A new exhibition is set for the Hutton Wayfarer Gallery, opening this Saturday.
“Myriad of Creations” will showcase early work of gallery owner Robert Hutton, with some pieces dating back to the early 1960s.
Hutton, who taught fine arts at Marshall University in Huntington for decades, before retiring in 1999, said some of these works were recently brought out of storage.
He said, as they were some of his earliest, from his time as a student at Carnegie Mellon University and the Chicago Art Institute, he thought the show might be of particular interest to
his former art students, as well as those currently going to school for art.
The event is set for noon-3 p.m. at the gallery and is free and open to the public. An artist’s talk on the work by Hutton is set for 1 p.m.
The exhibit will also feature paintscape pieces, spiritual artworks, and the first large scale acrylic painting Hutton has produced from a 2024-25 Ohio Arts Grant.
Hutton, 85. Said this is the first grant from OAC he has applied for.
Active in the arts for 65 years, he has been increasing his creative output after recovering injuries from a 2021 auto accident and a 2023 stroke.
Hutton and his wife, Robin, opened the gallery in 2018, which has a permanent collection of work from Hutton’s long career, as well as rotating exhibits from guest artists.
The gallery is located at 52 Private Drive 250/County Road 144, just outside the South Point village limits.
