Area garden clubs decorate Shawnee Lodge

Viewing will be Sunday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

WEST PORTSMOUTH — For several years now, the garden clubs of Lawrence Scioto, and Pike counties have gathered to decorate the Shawnee Lodge at the Shawnee State Park for Christmas with 150,000 lights.

And when the state votes on the favorite lodge decorations, Shawnee always wins.

While there are 11 area garden clubs that brighten the lodge for the Christmas season with the help of students from Rock Hill, Northwest and Minford high schools.

The Ironton Garden Club, the Rock Hill Gardeners and the newest Lawrence County garden club, Growers Gittin’ Dirty from Proctorville, have always decorated the lower lobby

The Shawnee Lodge will have an open house for the public to view the decorations on Sunday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa will be there along with the Grinch and cookies with hot cocoa. There will also be vendors and entertainment.
