Dog licenses on sale now

Dog licenses are on sale now until Jan. 31 through the Lawrence County Animal Shelter. Licensing your dog is an essential responsibility for pet owners, helping to ensure lost pets can be identified and returned home.

Ohio Law Requirement

Under Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 955.01, all dog owners, keepers or harborers of dogs older than three months must register their dogs between Dec. 1 and Jan. 31 annually with the Lawrence County Auditor.

Where to Purchase Dog Licenses

Dog licenses can be purchased:

In person, at the following:

• Lawrence County Animal Shelter, 1302 Adams Lane, Ironton

• South Point Storage, 602 Solida Rd., South Point

• Lawrence County Auditor’s Office, 111 South 4th St., Ironton

• Dickess Market, 13628 State Route 141, Kitts Hill

2025 Dog License Fees:

• One-Year License: $16.

• Licenses purchased after Jan. 31 will incur a $16 late penalty per tag.

• One-year license (Spayed/Neutered Dog): $12.

• Documentation from a veterinarian is required. Licenses purchased after Jan. 31 will incur a $12 late penalty per tag.

• Three-year license: $48 (available online & auditors office only).

• Permanent license: $160 (available online & auditors office only).

• If you fail to renew your dog license by Feb. 1, the cost of the license doubles, and you may also face fines for having an unlicensed dog.
