Fighting Tigers headline area all-district team

When looking at the local players on the all-district team, it’s easy to see it more as the all-talent team.

A total of 41 area football players were honored by their selections to the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Southeast Ohio All-District football teams.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers led the way with 8 first team selections and 11 players overall.

Ironton also won the top 3 individual player awards while head coach Trevon Pendleton shared Coach of the Year honors with Fairland Dragons’ Mike Jackson and Nelsonville-York’s Rusty Richards.

In Divison 5, Ironton landed senior athlete Shaun Terry, senior quarterback Braden Schreck, senior defensive lineman Aiden Layne, senior defensive back Josh Johnson, senior linebacker Austin Bump, junior linebacker Zayne Williams and senior offensive lineman Bowen Gossett on the first team.

Special Mention went to senior offensive lineman Barkley Litton, senior wide receiver Tyler Roach and sophomore defensive back Brycen Mullins.

Terry was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Layne was the Lineman of the Year and Johnson the Defensive Player of the Year.

Senior athlete Jack Hayden topped the Fairland selections along with senior linebacker Quentin Cremeans.

Also on the first team were senior offensive lineman Will Callicoat, senior wide receiver Keegan Smith, and senior defensive lineman Garrett Cornwell.

Fairland had 3 players named Special Mention that included senior running back Kam Kitts, senior quarterback Ethan Wall and senior linebacker Lucas Bompus.

The Coal Grove Hornets moved up to Division 5 this season and had 4 players on the first team led by junior running back Kaden Murphy.

He was joined on the first unit by senior offensive lineman C.J. Pemberton, senior linebacker Joey Scarberry and junior defensive lineman Caden Turner.

The South Point Pointers senior Brayden Hanshaw made the first team for the third straight season but this time as a quarterback. He played wide receiver the past 2 years.

On the Special Mention list for the Pointers were senior wide receiver Kamren Miller and sophomore running back Landon Vance.

Rock Hill Redmen senior defensive back and record-setting running back Anthony Stamper was named the Defensive Player of the Year to lead the Division 6 selections.

Junior offensive lineman, senior tight end Drew Schug and senior linebacker Wyatt Jenkins were also named first team for the Redmen.

Senior defensive back Mason Hanners and senior offensive lineman Gage Clutters was selected Special Mention.

The Chesapeake Panthers had 5 players honor with senior gunning back Drew Plantz leading the way.

Also on the first team were senior offensive lineman Garrett Napier, senior quarterback Jacob Harris and senior wide receiver Ethan Kerns.

Senior linebacker Spencer Wright was named Special Mention.

In Division 7, the Symmes Valley Vikings had senior Will Jones on the first team for the second straight year and he was joined by junior Dylan Urban.

The Vikings junior lineman Tucker Ross and sophomore linebacker Caleb Mount were Special Mention.

Green Bobcats senior linebacker Blake Smith was voted to the first team for the second straight year and senior running back Riley Cunningham was named Special Mention.
