Staff report

The Brass Roots Trio, hailed as “…one of the most compelling ensembles of the 21st century,” will perform at Ohio University Southern at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Riffe Rotunda.
The three world-class musicians redefine the chamber music genre with their adventurous programming of classical, jazz, Americana and Latin styles. Dr. Travis Heath (trumpet and flugelhorn), Dr. Douglas Lundeen (French horn and vocalist) and Rosetta Senkus Bacon (piano) infuse their music with exuberant energy, and their warm-hearted presentation makes an immediate connection with the audience.
A pioneer of piano, trumpet and horn instrumentation, Brass Roots Trio has played to standing ovations and rave reviews in every corner of the U.S. and England since 2004.
Their tours have included performances at Oxford University, St. James Piccadilly in London, the Chicago Brass Festival, and on Community Concert Series, Chamber Music Series and on NPR.
In 2009, the trio was honored to perform for President and Mrs. Obama and their guests at the White House.
The trio’s concert programs are an eclectic mix of styles. From a Baroque duet with piccolo trumpet and horn to jazz inspired Gershwin to Piazzolla’s decadent tangos and American spirituals, The Brass Roots Trio creates symphonic sounds, making three instruments sound like a small orchestra — and it’s always a surprise when the horn player puts down his instrument and sings an aria or spiritual with his magnificent tenor voice.
Admission is $15 and can be paid at the door with cash or check payable to the “Ironton Council for the Arts.”
The performance is free for students and children of all ages. Ohio University Southern is handicap accessible.
The Ironton Council for the Arts would like to thank the Ohio Arts Council for awarding us ArtSTART and Ohio Artists on Tour grants for the third consecutive subscription concert season. These awards help defray performance costs and allow us to continue to offer you high-quality, low-cost performances.
Special thanks to the Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc. for sponsoring today’s Brass Roots Trio performance, and their Monday outreach performance at Harbor Healthcare, through their Artists in Concert Fund.
