Alva Eugene Hieronimus, age 84, of Carthage, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 after a short illness.
Alva is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Mary Hieronimus, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and Greg and Amanda Hieronimus, of Carthage, Tennessee; grandson, James Hieronimus; and a brother, Don Hieronimus, of Ohio.
On Nov. 14, 1939 in Wheeling, West Virginia Alva was born to loving parents, Luther and Janey Kimble Hieronimus. He was preceded in death by siblings Dorothy, Harold, Roy, Rose and Carolyn.
Alva met his future wife, Jeanna LaRay Wiseman, when they attended Waterloo High School together. He graduated in 1959.
On March 19, 1962, he married his sweetheart in Clintwood, Virginia, and she preceded him in death on July 30, 2021.
They lived in Norfolk, Virginia, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but it was Tennessee that became their home.
Alva was in the United States Navy entering service on July 8, 1959 and was released from active duty on June 11,1963, serving during the Cuba missile crisis.
He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight, McClean and PIE.
Alva spent time volunteering with the Salvation Army and the Smith County Help Center helping those in need.
He enjoyed watching old western movies.
Mr. Hieronimus is at the Carthage, Tennessee Chapel of Bass Funeral Home.
Graveside services and Interment will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at the Ridgewood Cemtery in Carthage, Tennessee, with Pastor Eddie Poole officiating, with military honors by the United States Navy.
The family will receive friends at the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on from 11 a.m.–12:45 p.m. when we leave to go to the Ridgewood Cemetery for the 1 p.m. graveside service.
