ASHLAND, Ky. – The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Kentucky Region is pleased to host and participate in the annual Scholar Dash virtual 5K fundraising event.
The group is looking for walkers/runners to join the cause, with proceeds supporting the Golden Opportunity Scholarship. This scholarship helps students pay the membership fee to the honors organization when they simply cannot afford it.
ACTC’s Alpha Omega Gamma PTK chapter members are actively participating in the Scholar Dash event, which includes ACTC student Kate Bryant.
Bryant currently serves as vice president of Scholarship for ACTC’s PTK chapter and is herself a recipient of the Golden Opportunity Scholarship.
“Being a recipient of the Golden Opportunity Scholarship opened a lot of doors for me to become an active member in PTK at my college,” she said. “It was great to get assistance to cover the membership fee to join such a wonderful organization. I’m a full-time student and parent in a one-income family, so finances are always tight, and I appreciated the opportunity to receive the scholarship.”
Scholar Dash allows participants to commit to doing a 5k walk/run at their own location and convenience.
“I love the flexibility of this event and that it can also include kids, family members, and even pets,” said Bryant. “I’m thrilled to be able to give back to the same scholarship that gave me the opportunity to get my start with PTK. By participating with Phi Theta Kappa, I have been able to develop leadership skills that apply to the real world while also making a meaningful difference for my college and community.”
ACTC-PTK chapter advisor and team captain for the KY Region Scholar Dash event Janet Thompson is excited to be hosting the 5K again in 2024.
“Several of our PTK chapter members have benefitted from receiving the Golden Opportunity Scholarship so we are always glad to give back to this worthy endeavor. I particularly love that the event is structured to be at your own pace and you also receive a nice t-shirt that promotes the cause. We look forward to participating each year,” Thompson said.
Virtual 5K registration for the Scholar Dash event costs $30 and comes with a commemorative pin and t-shirt.
Participants will commit to do their 5K at their own location/leisure by the deadline of Oct. 13.
