Betty Zaghawski

It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved matriarch, Betty Zaghawski, 89, has passed away peacefully. Betty (Massie) was born March 27, 1935 in Hanging Rock to Alberta Massie and Clarence Jones.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, James “Jim” Zaghawski, whom she married on Nov. 4, 1984.

Betty attended Wilgus and Hanging Rock Schools.

She was a homemaker, who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Betty Z, as she was so loving known by her church family at the Ironton City Mission Church, was a very active member in the church and with the City Mission Ladies Auxiliary.

She sang in the choir with her beautiful voice, and singing solo with her guitar. She loved her Lord and Savior and always told everyone about her Jesus. She was a blessing and a joy to be with, she loved the church children and made sure she would bring suckers for them.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Abby Aldridge and Pearl Massie. She has four daughters and one son, of which her oldest daughter, Anna Margaret Walters and her son, Johnny Webb preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters, Lesa Clark, Bratina Brown and Ronda Malone. She has nine grandchildren, two names are unknown, Roxanne Stump, Kayla Hackworth, Beverly Trow, Charles Sanders, Destiny Webb, Tirza Miller and Sabella Malone, who she helped raise. She has 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five husbands, Ronald Walters, Harold Dufore, Ronald Webb, Carl Ross and James Zaghawski.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Cemetery, with Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating.
