Flyers get another shutout with 10-0 win over Panthers

PORTSMOUTH — The St. Joseph Flyers appear to have an affinity for the number “zero.”

The Flyers gave up zero goals on Tuesday in a 10-0 Southern Ohio Conference soccer win over the Portsmouth Clay Panthers.

With the win, the Flyers now have 6 wins and zero losses including 3 wins and zero losses in the SOC.

Freshman goalkeeper Beckham Waginger had 8 saves to help the Flyers keep the zero theme going.

Waginger’s play complimented the Flyers’ junior defensive front of Kemper Kerecman, Blake Medinger, Ian Whaley and Carson Willis who recorded their third shutout of the season. The Formidable Five have allowed just 2 goals in the first 6 games.

On the offensive side, Texas Jack Whaley and Wesley Neal each posted a hat trick. Both players had 3 goals and an assist.

Carson Lyons had 2 goals and an assist, Landon Rowe had a goal and 2 assists, Mason Weber a goal and an assist, Carson Willis 2 assists and both Eli Whaley and Andrew Listerman had an assist.

The Flyers had 32 shots with 24 shots on goals, 4 corner kicks and 8 fouls. Clay had 13 shots with 8 on goal, 2 corner kicks and 3 fouls.

Goalkeeper Cory Williams had 14 saves for the Panthers (2-5, 1-3).

St. Joseph will host Lucasville Valley at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a battle for first place in the SOC1.
