Ruth Colvin
Jan. 23, 1935–Sept. 6, 2024
Ruth E. Colvin, 89, a former longtime resident of Franklin Furnace, passed away peacefully at her home in Morehead, Kentucky, on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.
Ruth was born Jan. 23, 1935, a daughter to the late Frank Valentine and Edna Holbrook Valentine.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, James Colvin, whom she missed deeply.
Ruth was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and an employee of the Green Local Schools for 30 years, where she worked as an educational aide.
She greatly enjoyed working with the students and staff at Green Elementary School.
Ruth was a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all of her heart.
She was a member of the Plymouth Heights Church of the Nazarene since 1963.
While attending there, she served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher and was a longtime member of the choir.
When Ruth could no longer attend church, she faithfully watched the services online and never lost touch with her church family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters, Wilma Martin and Lorene Brislin; brother, Robert (Bob) Valentine; and a daughter-in-law, Alesia Colvin.
Those who are left to cherish her memories include her children, Jim Colvin, of Granger, Indiana, and Leah (Tim) Kochendoerfer, of Morehead, Kentucky.
She will be remembered as the awesome and loving Mammaw to Kristen Kochendoerfer, Tim (Tierra) Kochendoerfer, Emily Siegel, Gage Siegel, Rachael Shirk and Jimmy Colvin.
In the last few years, she found great joy in being “Grammy” to Carter, Braxton, Anderson, MiaBella, Haven and Sage.
Ruth will be missed by her family and friends, but our faith tells us that she is now healed and taking part in a great reunion in a place that can only be best described as Paradise.
We will always love you.
We would like to express a special note of thanks and appreciation to Ruth’s caregivers over the past several months, Becky Jones, Alisa Crouch, Theresa Burton, Amanda Ferguson, Sierra Ferguson, Jennifer Burroughs and Shayla Hall. Your tender loving care and kindness meant so much to her.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Plymouth Heights Church of the Nazarene in Franklin Furnace, with Pastor Andy Ramey officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.
Friends may visit with the family at the church from 11 a.m. until time of the service.
