HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — OK, bag check. Footballs? Check. Helmets? Check. Cleats? Check. Calculator? What?

When the Ironton Fighting Tigers packed up for their game Saturday night, they were in need of a calculator in order to keep track of all the points they scored.

Ironton amassed 544 total yards en route to a lopsided 63-7 win over the Cabell Midland Knights on Saturday at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The Fighting Tigers (3-0) dominated the game from start to finish, notably on offense but on defense as well by holding the Knights to 120 total yards including 91 rushing and just 29 passing.

Shaun “Mr. Electric” Terry, Zayne “The Train” Williams and Braden “Bigs” Schreck led the way offensively for Ironton.

Terry ran twice for 61 yards and a touchdown, caught 2 passes for 84 yards and a score and displayed his uncanny ability to cut and accelerate while eluding defenders.

Williams ran 5 times for 38 yards and 2 touchdowns and also caught an 80-yard pass for a touchdown. Schreck was 11-of-16 passing for 278 yards and 3 TDs while also running for 16 yards and a score.

The onslaught began from the opening kickoff as Ironton forced a fumble that was recovered by Maddix Markel who ran it from the 25 to the 2-yard line. Williams scored on the next play and David Fields’ conversion kick quickly made it 7-0 12 seconds into the game.

Ironton forced a punt and then went on an 80-yard 10-play drive capped by Williams’ 20-yard scoring run and it was 14-0 with 4:26 on the clock.

Another punt gave Ironton the ball at its own 36 where it took just 2 plays to score. Kayden Edwards ran 23 yards and then Terry took it the final 41 yards and it was 20-0 with 1:42 left in the quarter.

The Knights began their next drive at the 48-yard line but fumbled on the second play of the second quarter and Nick Sites recovered at the 23.

After an incomplete pass on first down, Schreck hit Terry with a short pass and “Mr. Electric” took it from there to complete a 77-yard scoring pass play and a 27-0 lead with 11:29 left in the half.

A 3-and-out gave the ball back to the Fighting Tigers at the 42 and they scored 12 plays later as Schreck went the final yard and it was 33-0 at the 5:37 mark.

Cabell Midland — playing its first game of the season — fumble on its next play and Markel recovered for the second time and 3 plays later Jesse Copas ran 5 yards untouched up the middle and it was 40-0.

The Knights finally got on the scoreboard when Eian Duffy hit tight end Carson Gue with a 19-yard scoring pass to cap a 70-yard drive in 10 plays.

But Ironton wasn’t finished despite only 26 seconds left in the half.

On the ensuing play after the kickoff, Schreck hit Williams on a wheel route and outran the secondary into the end zone with 10 seconds on the clock. Fields’ kick put the lead at 47-7 at the break.

Ironton scored 6 plays into the second half as Schreck and Copas hooked up on a 31-yard scoring pass play. Beckham Waginger kicked the conversion and it was 54-7 with 10:34 on the clock.

The lead went to 56-7 with 11:37 to play on the running clock of the second half as Brycen Mullins tackled Landon Nida in the end zone for a safety.

Ironton then took the free kick and used the running of Tyson Harvey to help get to the 10-yard line.

Braiden Linn and Jacob Hughes teamed up to get the ball to the 6-yard line and with 1:23 left Brian “Bubby” Kidd hit Silas Edwards who had to do a quick two-step to stay inbounds for the touchdown reception.

Ironton is set to play St. Francis of Buffalo, N.Y. next Saturday.
