SOUTH POINT — It’s soccer, so it’s always good to start off on the right foot.
Or even the left foot as long as it’s a win.
The St. Joseph Flyers played well on both feet as they began the season with a tough 2-0 road win over the South Point Pointers on Saturday.
Senior Landon”Rocky” Rowe took a long pass from senior Wesley Neal streaking past the defense and Rowe avoided the goalkeeper and scored into an open net to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead with 10:02 on the first half clock.
Neal got a nice through ball assist from junior Carson Lyon and fired a shot into the net at the 25:37 mark of the second half and it was 2-0.
Freshman Beckham Waginger recorded the shutout win in his first varsity game as he had 5 saves. Pointers goalkeeper Christian Dornon had 10 saves.
The Flyers took 18 shots with 12 on goal with 4 corner kicks. The Pointers took 9 shots with 5 on goal and also had 4 corner kicks.
The Flyers were whistled for 4 fouls and the Pointers none.
The Flyers played at East Carter, Ky., on Monday.
