EUGENE, Ore — One gone and one remains.

Ironton native McKenzie Long failed to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in the 100-meter dash, but there is still another event that could make her a part of the United State track and field team.

During the Olympic Trials this weekend, Long failed to qualify for the 100 meters finals on Saturday but still has a chance in the 200-meter dash which is her strongest event.

Long was third in the first round heat of the 100 meters as she posted a time of 10.94 seconds.

Sha’Carri Richardson won at 10.88 seconds and Melissa Jefferson was second at 10.91 seconds.

Long was 12th in the 100-meter dash semifinals with an 11.15 seconds timing.

Richardson won the semi-final heat at 10.86 second and was first in the finals at 10.71 seconds. Jefferson was second at 10.87 in the semifinals and runner-up in the finals at 10.80 seconds.

Long’s next chance to qualify for the Olympics will be Thursday at 8:51 p.m. in the 200 meters first round. The semifinals are Friday at 10:06 p.m. and the finals Saturday at 8:27 p.m.
