Unioto tops Fairland

ATHENS — One bad apple does spoil the whole bunch.
The Fairland Lady Dragons gave up 3 runs in one inning that proved to be the difference in a 4-1 loss to the Unioto Lady Sherman at Ohio University in the Division 2 district semifinals.
Fairland (15-7) got its run in the fifth on a shallow fly ball single to right field by Ally Shepherd to drive in the runner.
Unioto tied the game on an RBI single by Ava Dettwiller in the bottom of the inning.
The Lady Shermans scored 3 runs sixth to make it 4-1 as a run scored on a throwing error, Abbie Marshall singled in a run and Megan Miller hit a sacrifice fly.
Kaylee Salyer took the loss as she gave up 9 hits and 4 earned runs. She struck out 6 and walked 2.
Shepherd was 4-4 with an RBI as Fairland got 7 hits. Katie Dehart, Katy Bell and Salyer were all 1-3.
Marshall was 2-3 with a double and an RBI, Morgan Daniels was 2-4 with a double and Peyton Robinson was 2-3 to lead Unioto.
Hannah Hull got the win as she gave up the 7 hits, an earned run with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks.
The game had an unusual twist with Fairland called 5 times for interference.
