EDITORIAL: Teaching the value of giving

On Thursday, members of the El Hasa Shriner Hillbillies were at Rock Hill Elementary School and its connected preschool to reward children there for their successful fundraising efforts.
The school led this year in the penny drive, the proceeds of which will go to a good cause, paying for vans for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The funds go along with all other activities the group, based in Ironton does, such as their annual onion sales or raffles for Buckeyes season tickets.
Everything they raise goes toward the efforts for children.
And the group has an out-sized presence in our community as well, appearing at events, such as the Ironton Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade, where, along with the rest of El Hasa’s groups, they have been a longtime fixture in the event.
We are fortunate to have such a civic-minded organization in our community and we thank them for all they do and congratulate Rock Hill’s students.
