CHESAPEAKE — Abbie Deeds would be a bad disc jockey.
Usually a disc jockey brags that the hits just keep on coming. But with Deeds, hits come at a premium.
Deeds pitched a one-hitter as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets blanked the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 11-0 in a 5-inning Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Deeds struck out 13 and did not walk a batter. She had a perfect game until McKenna Brown got a leadoff single in the fifth inning.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Hornets got 4 runs in the second inning.
Mia Haynes singled, Kasey Vanderhoof singled and the runners moved up on an error.
Braelie Hitchcock singled home the runners, stole second and scored when Deeds reached on an error. Shay Collins was safe on an error as Deeds scored.
The lead went to 6-0 in the third inning.
Rylee Black singled, Haynes was safe on a 3-base error as Black scored. Haynes then scored on a wild pitch.
Coal Grove (12-7, 8-2) got 2 more runs in the fourth inning and it was 8-0.
Collins got a one-out single and went to second on an error. Izzy Kitts singled home Collins, stole second and came home on a hit by Black.
The Lady Hornets created the run rule with 3 runs in the fifth.
Kendall Taylor singled, Kassidy Travis was safe on an error and Deeds singled to load the bases. Collins and Kitts grounded out to drive in runs. Black singled home Deeds to cap the rally.
Black went 3-4 with 2 RBI, Haynes 2-2, Kitts 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Hitchcock and Taylor both 1-3, Collins 1-4 with an RBI and Deeds 1-4.
