EDITORIAL: Celebrating a century of civic mindedness

This year, the Ironton Lions Club is beginning its second century of existence.
The group is deeply involved in causes and events in the city, whether it is efforts to collecting donations for eyeglasses to children in need, organizing events like the city’s Halloween and Christmas parades, running the Haunted Tunnel attraction or distributing aid to numerous charities in the city and region.
And Lions Club members tend to be active not just in their group, with members also serving in organizations like the Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade committee, the Rotary Club and the Humane Society. The Ironton Lions also frequently partner with other clubs in the county, such as Coal Grove and South Point.
The Ironton Lions have been a bastion of civic commitment and inspire others to commit to more.
We salute them on their first 100 years and look forward to seeing what they have planned for their next century.
