Michael Jan Williams, 73, of Ironton, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at his residence.
The Johnson County, Kentucky native was born March 5, 1951, the son of the late Bertha Rollins Williams and James Williams.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Andrea Ralph Williams, whom he married June 29, 1974.
Mr. Williams was a 1969 graduate of Johnson Central High School and received his degree in Education from Morehead State University in 1973.
He went to work in the industrial field at Wall Conveyor in Huntington, West Virginia, before transitioning to Hecla Fabricating in Hecla.
He was a basketball referee for more than 25 years and was president of the National Camper and Hiker’s Association for more than 15 years.
He enjoyed traveling around the world and spending time with his family.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ryan (Alicia) Williams, of Ashland, Kentucky; a daughter and son-in-law Tinessa Williams (John Jenkins), of Hecla; and five grandchildren, Drew Williams, Abby Williams, Alyssa Williams, Trenton Williams and Blakely Williams-Jenkins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers; Jimmy Williams, Danny Williams, and Jackie Williams; three sisters, Bettie Franklin, Libby Barrett, Trish Slone; father-in-law, Robert Ralph, and mother-in-law, Drexell Ralph.
There will be a private service at a later date at the convenience of the family.
