There were only two competitive local races on Lawrence County’s ballot on Tuesday night and, barring the entry of an independent candidate in the fall, the winners of those of those races are assured election in the fall.

In the Republican race for Lawrence County Commission, incumbent Colton Copley won his party’s nomination, defeating Randy Wise and Hunter Tolliver.

A second commission seat was on the ballot, but incumbent Commissioner DeAnna Holliday faced no primary opposition.

No Democrats filed to oppose either Copley or Holliday in the fall.

In the Lawrence County Recorder race, Lori Morris defeated Barry Blankenship in the Republican primary. No Democrats filed for that office.

The rest of the ballot was a similar story, with incumbents, such as Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, County Engineer Patrick Leighty, Court of Common Pleas Judge Christen Finley, County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson, County Treasurer Tresa Baker, County Coroner Ben Mack and State Rep. Jason Stephens facing no opposition in wither their primaries or from Democrats in the fall.

One of the few countywide Democratic incumbents, Lawrence County Clerk of Courts Michael Patterson, faced no opponent in his primary and faces no Republican opposition it the fall.
