Howard A. Waller, 94, of Ironton, passed away on March 16, 2024 at home under Hospice care.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1930, to the late Jess and Martha Waller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, after 69 years of marriage. Howard graduated from Ironton High School in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After his time in the service, he returned home and worked at Ashland Oil, South Point Ethanol and eventually settled at USS Chemical in Haverhill until he happily retired in 1991.
He was a member of the Ironton First Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and VFW, where he served as part of the VFW Honor Guard for many years participating in the Memorial Day Parade and fulfilling the gun salute duties at many graveside services.
He also received the Kentucky Colonel honor in 1991.
He enjoyed growing tomatoes, walking, music, and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and a son-in-law.
Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his children, Teresa (Curt) Robinson, William (Karen) Waller, Jennifer Howard, Elaine (Tim) Kleinman and Julie (Jim) Carrico; 11 grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Scott Waller, Bradley Waller, Lindsey Bennett, Scottie Howard, Leslie Thomas, Clay Robinson, Christen Reynolds, McKenzie Yates, Logan Carrico, Bentlie Carrico; and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Patty (Harold) Koerper; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Woodrum and Frances Monnig; one brother-in-law, Don (Peggy) Schmeisser; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery with Pastor Sam Peters presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Harvest for the Hungry Food Pantry, at 120 N. Fifth St., Ironton, Ohio 45638.
