Dawson-Bryant Elementary School hosts morning readers
DEERING — Students at Dawson-Bryant Elementary School were host to special guests on Friday morning, as part of Read Across America Week at the school.
Several from the community came to the school to read Dr. Seuss books to all of the school’s children.
The guests included government officials, such as Lawrence County Commissioner DeAnna Holliday, County Auditor Paul David Knipp, Ironton Municipal Judge Kevin Waldo, as well as local school board members, the high school’s principal, Dean Mader, school parents and people from the community, such as personal trainer Viviane Khounlavong, school parents and Elizabeth Cremeans, of NECCO.
Principal Monica Mahlmeister, whose husband, Mike, Ironton’s fire chief, read to students, said, altogether, there were 35 guest readers, who were served breakfast in the cafeteria and then escorted to classrooms by pairs of students.
Students have been doing extra reading-related activities all week as part of the celebration, which included a book fair, as well as themed dress up days, Mahlmeister said.
