Surrounded by his wife, (Carolyn), children and relatives, Bob died at home with the care of Community Hospice.

He was born in Ironton to Norman and Marie (Smith) Waddle who predeceased him.

Bob was a child of the depression who spent his childhood roaming Coryville and his grandparents’ county farm.

Tough times produce tough people and Bob worked jobs starting as a paperboy for the Ironton News and later, The Ironton Tribune.

He graduated from Ironton High School, Class of 1946.

Later in life, he enjoyed many lunches sharing stories of school days with his classmates and discussing the successes and strengths of the Fighting Tigers sport teams, both boys and girls.

Joining the Army following graduation, he served in Germany during the beginning of the recovery of the occupied country.

During the Korean Conflict, he was recalled to service and became a paratrooper in the Army Airborne.

A severe car wreck caused him to be released from service following a year in military hospital for recovery.

Bob married Vera Whitehead and is survived by their two children, Cathyrn Doughman, of Ironton and Jeffery Waddle (Mary), of Ironton.

He was also predeceased by a sister, Betty Floyd.

A brother, Glen Waddle, of Hudson; and sister, Etta Marcolini, of Newport News, Virginia, survive.

Bob and Carolyn were married in 1972 and spent 51 loving years together.

Bob’s working career was spent at the Ashland Oil No. 2 Refinery in Catlettsburg, Kentucky working as a pipe fitter and an electrician until he retired in 1985.

His leisure time was spent golfing, bowling, dirt track racing and woodworking.

Bob will be missed by his grandchildren, Jeffery, Christy, Courtney, Katie, Jessica and Zachary, and Blake and Conner; his great-grandchildren, Riley, Collin, Landen, Mason, Ava and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service.
