Today is the big day for Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities.

The agency’s annual Chilifest will take place at Open Door School in Coal Grove and is always a popular draw.

Serving as one of LCDD’s main fundraisers for the year, the event will also feature a vendor fair to go along with the sampling of chili made by area businesses and groups.

LCDD runs open Door School, which provides a specialized education for those with disabilities, but the agency’s work does not end with graduation.

LCDD provides lifetime services to adults in the DD community, aiding in work opportunities, life skills and other needs.

The event not only raises funds for the community, but also gives the public a way to show support for those in LCDD’s programs, many of whom will be present and assisting. Information on available services in the county and region will also be provided at booths.

We encourage everyone who can to drop by the event, which runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and take part in a positive tradition for Lawrence County.
