HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –Marshall Football learned of its official 2024 schedule on Friday following its release from the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN.

The Thundering Herd will play six home games, highlighted by a pair of Sun Belt Conference games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium – an Oct. 5 contest against App State and a Nov. 16 contest against Coastal Carolina.

“The schedule release is always a good time of year because it means we are one step closer to football season,” Marshall Football coach Charles Huff said. “As always, we are excited about the opportunity to play some really good opponents. The Sun Belt Conference continues to be extremely competitive week-in and week-out. This gives us some guidance into what we are up against for this extremely challenging season.”

Along with the aforementioned games against App State and Coastal Carolina, Marshall will host Stony Brook (Aug. 31) and Western Michigan (Sept. 28) in the non-conference portion of the schedule while hosting Georgia State (Oct. 17) and ULM (Nov. 2) in SBC play.

The Georgia State contest is a Thursday night game that will be shown on ESPN’s linear family of networks, which includes ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.

In addition to the home slate of games, Marshall will have several regional road games on its 2024 schedule, which will allow for fans to travel to cheer on the Thundering Herd.

That road slate is highlighted by a pair of games against Power Five programs at two of college football’s best atmospheres – a Sept. 7 matchup against Virginia Tech in Lane Stadium and a Sept. 21 battle with Ohio State at Ohio Stadium.

Marshall ends the regular season with consecutive road games in Virginia – a Nov. 23 meeting with rival Old Dominion and a Nov. 30 contest at James Madison. The Herd’s other two road games are an Oct. 12 battle at Georgia Southern and a Nov. 9 matchup at Southern Miss.

The Herd ends the season with three of its final four games on the road.

“Nothing can change our belief in Marshall football or our steadfast belief in our student-athletes,” Marshall Director of Athletics Christian Spears said. “Our team is resilient and determined, and we will stand with them as we approach a schedule with some great opponents and some awesome opportunities to show the country what it means to play at Marshall! We are ready to get after it this year!”

Game-times and television considerations have not been determined yet. All games in Weeks 1-3 will have their network designation and kick times announced in late May while games in weeks 4-14 fall into the 12-day selection window, as determined by the Sun Belt and ESPN through their rights agreement.

Themes and special events for the 2024 home dates at Joan C. Edwards Stadium will be announced by Marshall Athletics in the near future.

Marshall football starts its 2024 spring practice in mid-March in preparation for the Spring Game, which will be at 4 p.m. on April 20.
