PORTSMOUTH — Maybe the South Point Pointers are planning to get a second gym in Portsmouth.

After routing Portsmouth 84-49 on Friday, the Pointers returned to the city on Saturday for the Shawnee State Shootout and rolled past the Whiteoak Wildcats 77-38.

“It was a good game for us, especially after a big conference game the night before,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “These kinds of games always cause me worries. But we responded well and did what we had to do,”

Caleb Lovely had another big game as he scored 24 points and nailed four 3-pointers. He also had 5 assists and 3 steals.

Brayden Hanshsaw had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Carter Smith added 12 points and 4 assists with Jalyn Anderson grabbing 7 rebounds.

Sawyer Blair had 13 points for the Wildcats (4-7).

Lovely drained three 3-pointers and scored 12 points as the Pointers took a 20-8 first quarter lead.

Four different Whiteoak players scored in the quarter.

Lovely continued with the hot hand in the second quarter with another trifecta as he scored 10 points while Smith added 8 points and both Elijah Wilburn and Hanshaw scored 4 each as the lead ballooned to 50-20 at the break.

Blair scored 5 points and the Wildcats were 8-of-10 from the line in the quarter.

The lead grew to 67-30 in the third quarter as Xander Haney hit a trey and scored 5 points while Smith and Hanshaw got 4 points each.

Blair knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points.

The Pointers’ Ethan Layne knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Brady Brandenburg scored 5 of Whiteoak’s 8 points.
