WILLOW WOOD — In this battle of Valley teams, the Vikings climbed to the top of the mountain.

The Symmes Valley Vikings controlled the game as they beat the Rive Valley Raiders 60-42 in a non-league game on Tuesday.

Ethan Smith scored 10 points in the first quarter and Aydan Taylor hit a trey as the Vikings jumped in front 17-9 in the first quarter.

Six different players scored in the second quarter as the Vikings extended their lead to 29-19 at the half.

William Childress hit a triple and made 2 fouls shots for half of the Raiders’ total in the quarter.

Jacob. Cade drained a triple and scored 7 points, Will Jones had 6 points and Logan Simpkins nailed a 3-pointer as Symmes Valley opened up a 47-25 lead in the third quarter.

Braden Bennett hit a pair of 3-pointers and had 8 points in the fourth quarter as the Raiders outscored the Vikings 17-13.

Smith scored 7 of the Vikings points in the quarter to stymie any thoughts of a comeback.

Smith led the Vikings (2-0) with a game-high 17 points to go with 4 assists and 2 steals.

Jones and Cade scored 11 each. Cade also had 10 rebounds and Jones grabbed 7.

Bennett scored 13 to pace the Raiders (1-2).

The Vikings will host Lucasville Valley on Friday.
