Lady Pointers shut down Lady Hornets

SOUTH POINT — Maybe the offense wasn’t consistent, but the defense certainly was.

The South Point Lady Pointers had 2 good offensive quarters but 4 good defensive quarters in a 59-37 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Monday.

“It was a good team effort, especially on the defensive end of the floor,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams. “Offensively, Camille Hall and Josie Kidd led us and Jasmyn Jones and Emma Harper hit big shots.”

South Point built a 23-10 first quarter lead as Josie Kidd had 8 points as she and Emma Harper each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers while Camille Hall added 4 points.

Kinsy Keeney scored 6 of the Lady Hornets’ points.

Coal Grove outscored South Point 7-5 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 28-17 at the half.

Janna Anson score 5 points and Keeney 2 for the Lady Hornets.

South Point got its offense back in gear in the third quarter and opened up a 45-26 cushion.

Hall scored 6 points with Harper, Kidd and Emma Saddler all hitting 3-pointers.

Isabelle Kitts cored 6 points while Alivia Noel hit a 3-pointer for Coal Grove.

Jasmyn Jones got 6 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Pointers extended their lead.

Kendall Taylor hit a trey and scored 6 points for Coal Grove.

On Thursday, South Point visits Chesapeake while Coal Grove host Ironton.
