Joyce Ann (Meyers) Lewis, 81, of Ironton, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023.
She was born in Chillicothe, on Jan. 20, 1942, to the late Lawrence F. Meyers and Myrtle E. (Smith) Meyers.
She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Ralph E. Lewis, whom she married June 2, 1962.
Joyce was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph High School and received her Registered Nursing degree from the St. Mary’s School of Nursing.
She was a devout member of St. Lawrence-O’Toole Catholic Church in Ironton where she sang in the choir and was active in the Catholic Women’s Club and the Future Faith Program.
Joyce had an extensive nursing career and took great pride in her 56 years of nursing and helping others.
She retired from the Jo-Lin Health Care Center after thirty-six years of service.
In addition to Jo-Lin’s, she formerly worked at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Lawrence County General Hospital and did industrial nursing for fourteen years at the Dayton Malleable Iron Co.
She also served as the nurse’s aide state tester for the State of Ohio for many years.
Joyce was also active in the Child Welfare Club, Bunko Club, Ladies 9-Hole League at the Ironton Country Club, and was proud of the Euchre Club that she and Nancy Corn helped start.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Ralph Stephen (Lori) Lewis, of Ironton, Kimberly Ann (Darrell) Cannon, of Gahanna, Amy Maureen (Dana) Lewis, of Ironton, Marta Joan (Michael) Farrell, of Morrow, and Leslie Elizabeth (David) Partridge, of Dublin. She is also survived by her sister; Gail Elizabeth (Bob) Holtzapfel, and her beloved ten grandchildren, Nicholas (Kayla) Lewis, Christopher Lewis, Lindsay (Michael Wolfe) Cannon, Andrew Cannon, Ryan Cannon, Craig (Marea) Lewis, Cory (Crystal) Lewis, Kelsey Farrell, Colleen Farrell, Keira Partridge and four great-grandchildren, Tyson, Myla, Amaya and Tripp Lewis.
The Nurse Honor Guard of the River Cities Service will begin at noon on Saturday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence-O’Toole Catholic Church, 611 Center St., Ironton, with Father Wayne Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Public visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
