Lawrence County schools close due to illness

Some Lawrence County students will be getting a shorter school week this week due to illness among the students and staff.
On Monday afternoon, the South Point, Ironton, Rock Hill and Symmes Valley school systems announced that they would be closed until Wednesday.
The Dawson-Bryant schools and Lawrence County Open Door School will be closed Tuesday.
The closings were due to illnesses and crews will be disinfecting the schools.
St. Joseph and St. Lawrence schools were closed Jan. 14 and 15 due to illness. Green Local was closed Monday.
In Kentucky, schools in Boyd and Greenup counties announced schools would be closed Monday and Tuesday due to illness.
The Ohio Department of Health reported that an increase of outpatient visits for influenza-like-illness was up for the week of Jan. 12-18. Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia health departments all reported widespread flu activity.
