Arden sisters help Ironton get big win

PORTSMOUTH — Arden and Arden, Armed and Dangerous.
Sisters Lexie and Kameren Arden scored 12 points each to lead 10 players in the scoring column as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers rolled past the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 66-17 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
The win kept Ironton’s flickering hopes alive for a share of the league title. Ironton is 16-3 overall and 11-2 in the OVC, one game behind Coal Grove with one game left in league play.
Lydia Hannan was the third Ironton player in double figures with 10 points while Riley Schreck and Samantha LaFon had 8 points each while Evan Williams scored 7.
Hannah Hughes scored 9 points for Portsmouth (8-11, 3-10).
Lexie Arden hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points and six other players had a basket as Ironton took a 17- 6 first quarter lead.
Hughes hit a pair of 3-pointers for Portsmouth’s total.
Lexie Arden, Evan Williams and Kirsten Williams all hit 3-pointers in the second quarter and the defense held Portsmouth to just one point and it was 32-7 at the break.
Hannan hit a 3-pointer and scored 6 points while Schreck, Lexie Arden and LaFon had 4 points each in the third quarter and the Lady Fighting Tigers extended the lead to an insurmountable 50-16.
Four different players scored in the third quarter for the Lady Trojans.
Kameren Arden had two 3-pointers and scored all 12 of her points in the fourth quarter and the defense limited the Lady Trojans to only one point again.
Ironton plays Lewis County on Saturday in the Tackett’s Body Shop Shootout.
