CHESAPEAKE — After struggling to score in the first half, the Fairland Dragons made up for it quickly.
Trailing 11-9 at the half, the Lady Dragons outscored the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 19-0 in the third quarter en route to a 38-25 Ohio Valley Conference win on Wednesday.
Both teams struggled from the field and at the foul line. Fairland was 4-of-21 from 2-point and 3-point range and made just 12-of-32 free throw attempts.
Chesapeake (9-10, 4-8) was only 3-of-22 from the field overall that included 2-of-7 from the arc. The Lady Panthers were just 15-of-35 at the foul line.
Fairland (11-9, 9-3) led 7-1 after the first quarter only to have Chesapeake get 5 points including a 3-pointer from Maddie Ward to take an 11-9 halftime lead.
Emma Marshall, Bailey Roland, Katie Brumfield and Jenna Stone all hit 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Lady Dragons rallied to take a 28-11 lead.
Chesapeake was 0-for-6 from the field in the quarter.
The Lady Panthers got a 3-pointer from Ward who scored 8 points and Blake Anderson had 5 points as they outscored Fairland 14-10 in the fourth quarter.
Roland had a 3-pointer and was 3-of-4 from the line and Kirsten Orsbon made 2-of-2 free throws as Fairland got the win.
Roland scored 9 points to lead Fairland while Miaa Howard had 13 rebounds and Jessica King had 10.
Ward scored a game-high 14 points and had 5 rebounds.
On Thursday, Fairland is at Rock Hill and Chesapeake goes to Gallipolis.
