With the March primary election nearing, a candidate forum has been scheduled for the eastern end of Lawrence County.
The Lawrence County Meet the Candidates Committee will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Night for 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Fairland West Elementary in Rome Township.
“We’re a relatively new group,” J.B. Finlay, the committee chair of the organization, said. “Several of us in this end of the county thought we needed to know more about the candidates, got together and started fresh.”
This public meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to hear from candidates and their vision for the community, if elected.
All candidates who have filed with the Lawrence County Board of Elections for the primary ballot have been invited to attend the event.
Positions featured in the forum will include state representative, county commissioners, county auditor, county sheriff, county treasurer and other elected positions within the county.
“We’ve had a good response,” Finlay said. “So far, we have 16 candidates coming.”
He said the format will be for each candidate to make opening remarks, respond to questions from the audience and meet informally with those in attendance.
The committee invites all Lawrence County residents to attend and participate in the election process through Meet the Candidates Night.
The school is located at 110 Twp. Rd. 1125.
Finlay said they are making arrangements to have the event recorded and broadcast as well.
