Let’s have a dialogue on LCDD

On Tuesday, the Lawrence County Commission voted to put funding for the county’s developmental disabilities service on the March ballot.
This will be the second levy for Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities before voters in the past year, with a previous, 2.5 mill, 10-year proposal being defeated in November.
The commissioners said they had heard from residents of the county who had concerns about the length and amount of the previous proposal and the levy appearing next year will be for 1.75 mills and for five years.
They said they also heard from many who had questions about the operation of the agency.
In their effort to secure more funding, we encourage supporters of LCDD to try their best to educate voters about what they are seeking and how the money will be spent.
Commissioner DeAnna Holliday suggested that public forums could be staged on the issue and we feel this would be a great service.
Conversely, we would encourage opponents to attend these events and ask questions and voice their concerns.
By engaging in such a dialogue, voters in the county will be better informed and able to cast an informed vote in the spring.
