LATHAM — The Western Lady Indians had just one lead in the entire game, but it was the only lead they needed.
Kenzie Temeau hit a 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds to play that gave Western a 53-50 win over the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.
“It’s a tough loss and a tough way to lose. But we played a lot better than we did on Monday,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Shannon Pierce.
Taylor Sells had 18 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals for the Lady Vikings (1-3, 0-2). Rachael Hayes got 15 points with 3 assists and 2 steals while Payton Hunter had 7 rebounds and both Hailee Littlejohn and Spring Ross grabbed 5 rebounds.
Temeau led Western (2-3, 2-1) with 21 points. Brooklyn Tackett added 12 points and Chloe Beekman 10.
The Lady Vikings were up 8-6 after the first quarter as Sells scored 7 points including a 3-pointer.
Hayes hit a triple and scored 7 points while Sells had another 3-pointer and the lead grew to 26-13 at the half.
Temeau had 10 points in the third quarter as Western cut the deficit to 37-27.
In the fourth quarter, Western converted 9-of-12 from the foul line and outscored the Lady Vikings 26-13 to rally for the win.
The Lady Vikings travel to Portsmouth Notre Dame on Monday.
