Holiday gift will help many

For the past two years, the Turkey Hunter’s Care Program of the South Hills Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has been helping those in need in Lawrence County.
Using money from fundraising activities, as well as donations, the group was able to purchase 375 frozen turkeys last fall, which they donated to area food pantries, churches and charitable organizations.
This year, they went even further.
With the $8,000 they raised, they donated more than 800 turkeys to groups on Thursday.
These groups would back a van up to the South Point Walmart, where NWTF members, as well as volunteers, would wheel carts out to load the turkeys to be taken to those who are in need for Thanksgiving or Christmas meal.
As the large crowd on hand, which included many officials, showed, this was a major gift that will help many in the county this holiday season, where there is much need.
We commend the NWTF for all that they have done. Through their hard work and generosity, Christmas and Thanksgiving will be much brighter for many families.
