James Payne
May 11, 1937 – Nov. 13, 2019
James Lee Payne, 82, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Payne was born May 11, 1937, in Andis, a son to the late Oscar and Clara (Lane) Payne. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ida Gibson Payne, who passed away July 9, 2017.
Mr. Payne attended Andis Schools and was a machinist for Dayton Malleable, a research machinist for Ashland Oil and was also a contract painter for over 40 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Whaley; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Whaley; and a sister, Doris Gillett.
He is survived by three sons, James A. (Tracy) Payne, of Midland, Michigan; John (Nancy) Payne, of Ironton, and Donnie Miller, of Worthington, Kentucky; three daughters, Brenda (Philip) Fields, of Russell, Kentucky, Gail Campbell and Cheri Smith both of Flatwoods, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great -grandchildren; and his favorite pet, Bowie.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with pastor Jim Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Aid Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Novella Melvin
March 23, 1930 – Nov. 17, 2019
Novella Rose Melvin, 89, affectionately known as Aunt Betty to most, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley, in Ironton.
Mrs. Melvin was born March 23, 1930, in Coal Grove, a daughter to the late Arley H. and Anna M. (McMackin) Honaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Melvin, in November 1976.
Mrs. Melvin was a retired bartender from V.F.W. Post 8850 Ironton, where she was a lifetime member of the auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Scott K. Hart; a sister, Eleanor (Sis) Payne; two brothers, Donald (Red) Honaker and Oscar (Toss) Honaker; one nephew, Tim Honaker; and two nieces, Kerry (Sis Honaker) Wagner and Mary Deeds.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Bob) Self and Tami Spurlock; four grandchildren, Shayne Self, Tracy Self, Heather Grant and Travis Self; three great-grandchildren, Brendan Self, Kody Self, and Lexi Brockway; one great-great-grandson, Uriah Self; and several loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
John Younce
John Thomas Younce, 83, of South Point, died Saturday, Nov 16, 2019.
He is survived by his wife, Jona Murray Younce.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.

Ethel Robbins
Ethel Charlene Robbins, 78, of Chesapeake, died on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at home.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Apostolic Life Cathedral, Huntington, West Virginia with Bishop E. S. Harper officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Chesapeake. Visitation will be held 5–7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Elda Colley
Elda Gail (Wilds) Colley, 87, of Coal Grove, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Kentucky.
Funeral service will be noon Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Pastor Dale Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery. Friends and family may call Thursday, 10:30 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Herman Theodore “Ted” Justice, 54, of Proctorville, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, in Huntington, West Virginia.

William Harrison
Feb. 3, 1950– Nov. 18, 2019
William David “Dave” Harrison, 69, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at Harbor Healthcare of Ironton.
The Ironton native was born Feb. 3, 1950, a son of the late Gene Harrison and Wanda Faye Rogers Crager. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Karen Mains Harrison, whom he married Aug. 16, 1971.
Dave was a 1968 graduate of Ironton High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio University Southern Campus. Dave was a retired school bus driver for the Ironton City School District and was well known for driving the Ironton Fighting Tiger’s team bus to many ball games. He was the president of the board for Briggs Lawrence County Public Library and a lifetime member and past exalted ruler of the Ironton Elks (B.P.O.E. #177). Dave loved to be around sports, he was a long-time statistician for the IHS basketball team and a huge fan of all the Ironton sports and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Crager.
He is survived by a daughter: Amy (Don) Battise, of Ironton; a grandson, Derek Battise, of Ironton; a brother, Bob (Vickie) Crager, of Ironton; a nephew: Eric Crager, of Coal Grove; a niece, Hilary Crager, of South Point.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Tracy-Brammer Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St. 6th Street, Ironton, with Jared Hineman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Guy Simpson Jr.
Guy “AG” Simpson Jr., 63, of Chesapeake, died on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be noon Thursday by pastor Gordon Simpson at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville.
