ROME TOWNSHIP — Students in Lawrence County schools are getting a little extra help this week with their writing assignments.
The Ironton Rotary Club has been visiting area schools, where they are handing out free dictionaries and thesauruses.
On Wednesday, they were at Fairland West Elementary in Rome Township, where assistant principal Sandy Joseph said the gifts went to the school’s third and fifth grade classes.
“They do this every year,” Joseph said. “And they do it throughout the county.”
Joseph said that one of the school’s teachers, Ashley Sullivan, of the fifth grade, times her class assignments to the annual giveaway.
“She looks forward to it, and they tie into the writing contests the students do,” Joseph said. “Those start today.”
