SOUTH POINT — It was Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker who sang, “When the sun goes down, we’ll be groovin’. When the sun goes down, we’ll be feelin’ alright.”
The South Point Lady Pointers led 2-0 at the half, but when the sun went down they returned in the second half and were really groovin’ as they blanked the Portsmouth West Lady Senators 7-0 in a non-league soccer game on Monday.
“Overall, my team played well tonight,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Erin Jenkins. “Portsmouth West played us strong in the first half and once the sun went down in the second half we were able to really find the back of the net.”
Emilee Whitt had a huge offensive game as she got a hat trick plus one by scoring four goals. Kylee Ellison, Sarah Roach and Katie Lester all had one goal.
Jacyie Walters, Ellison and Roach all have assists.
South Point goalie Emily Byrd had eight saves.
“Emilee Whitt was able to get the offense going by finished with four goals tonight. Katie Lester and Madaiah Reynolds played well in the midfield. Aysiah Sharp and Alli Lively’s speed and aggression really helped us defensively tonight to earn a shutout,” said Jenkins.
