Dorothy Matkins

May 2, 1940 – June 16, 2019

Dorothy Marybelle Long Matkins, 79, of Pedro passed into heaven, surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the home of her daughter.

The Ironton native was born May 2, 1940, to Clyde and Anna Long.

Dorothy was a 1958 graduate of Rock Hill High School. She was a homemaker and affectionately known as “Granny” to the friends of her grandchildren, whom she always enjoyed having in her home. Dorothy attended Etna Baptist Mission and was known for her smile, hugs and encouraging words to all.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam Matkins; firstborn son, Dirk Allen Matkins; and brothers, Jimmie Adams, Donald Long, George Long and Perry “Duke” Long.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Lance Harris of Pedro; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Angie (Owens) Matkins of Ironton; grandchildren, Landon and Holly Harris, Michelle Matkins, Ashley and Tyson Murphy, Brandon and Melissa Matkins, Kelsey and Dustin Harper, Samantha and Nick Bryant, Lisa and Shawn Smith and Joseph Matkins; great-grandchildren, Carter and Caton Harris, Samuel and Noah Matkins, Ryder, Breckyn and Gatlin Murphy, Laramie and Cyrus Harper, Raeleigh and Tripp Bryant and Jamarrie Matkins; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Kay Long; sisters-in-laws, Avanelle Jenkins, Diane Long, Linda Long and special friends, Jim and Diane Worley.

Dorothy’s life was enriched by many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends all of whom she loved dearly. She leaves each of us with a rich heritage of love to be treasured and passed to future generations.

Funeral service will be 5:30 p.m., Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Greg Frasure officiating. Burial will follow at Matkins Family Cemetery, Pedro. Visitation will be 4 – 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include George Long, Jr., Mike Long, Roy Long, Jr., Spanky Long, Nick Bryant, Dustin Harper and Tyson Murphy.

Dana King

Jan. 2, 1938 – June 15, 2019

Dana Jean (Rodehaver) King, 81, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at UK Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born in Ironton on Jan. 2, 1938, to the late Homer and Dorothy Ackinson Rodehaver. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James B. King.

Dana was a graduate of Ironton High School and was a self-employed hairdresser in Ironton for many years. She enjoyed spending her days drawing and coloring and cherished the time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter; Janice Marie King.

She is survived by a son, James D. (Connie L. Newcomb) King of Ironton; a sister, Rosie Blankenship of Ironton; a brother; Jim (Saundra) Rodehaver of Ironton; a grandson, Jason King of Cincinnati; a granddaughter; Kelli King of Columbus; several great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Jodi Rowe Collins of Ironton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. 6th Street. Ironton. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St, Ironton. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 870 Michigan Ave., Columbus, OH 43215.

Dorothy Houston

Dorothy Anna Bostick Houston, 89, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, died Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted noon Saturday, at Full Gospel Assembly 2101 10th Avenue Huntington, West Virginia, with Bishop Samuel R. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. – noon Saturday at the church.

Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dewey Davis Jr.,

Dewey Davis Jr., 66, of Chesapeake, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Lois Davis.

Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday at Apostolic Life Cathedral, Huntington, West Virginia, with visitation being held two hours prior to the service also at the church. Private burial will take place in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller.
