It was with deepest regret that the Coal Grove Betterment Club decided at their May meeting, after 32-33 years, that they would be unable to sponsor Family Fun Days in Paul Porter Park this year.
As many of you are aware, we have been having ongoing problems meeting insurance guidelines for making our playground handicapped accessible. Because some ownership issues are still unresolved, we are not able to make the necessary repairs and have the work completed in time. And, of course, no one wants to put any child at risk until the work can be completed.
Another issue we are having this year is not getting enough community support to aid us in this endeavor. It takes several people, working long hours each day, to put on this event. Of course, the more volunteers we have, the less time any one individual would have to work. The very few who attend our meetings are just not enough to do this by ourselves.
We would like to thank all of you who have donated baskets or supported our cake and pie auction over the years. Words cant express how much this has meant to us, so a big “Thank You” to all of you for your support.
We are hoping to have a bigger and better Family Fun Days in 2020 and that many of you will find time in your busy schedules to attend our meetings, which are held at the Jae Roush building on the second Tuesday of each month. Our village needs your assistance.
The fireworks, which are jointly sponsored by the Betterment Club and the village will still be held on July 3 at 10 p.m. Place to be announced later.
Sincerely,
The Coal Grove Betterment Club.
