Extra base hits highlight Trojans over Lady Panthers

CHESAPEAKE— It was like those old kid games when you play double or nothing.
In a game that featured 10 doubles and a home run, the Portsmouth Lady Trojans beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 8-5 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Chesapeake hit six doubles while Portsmouth had four doubles and a home run.
Portsmouth went up 1-0 in the first on doubles by Jacqueline Bautista and Faith Phillips.
The Lady Trojans got a run in the third when Olivia Ramey doubled, took third on a wild pitch and Bautista hit a sacrifice fly.
Chesapeake got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Cheyenne Ferrell and Ashley Tackett doubled.
The Lady Trojans got two more runs in the fifth.
Kyndal Kearns and Madison Perry reached on errors and Ramey had a two-run single.
But Chesapeake rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
Ferrell and Samantha Heffner were safe on errors, Tackett bunted for a hit to load the bases and Jordan Storms unloaded a three-run double.
Portsmouth went up 5-4 in the sixth on a single by Cassie Potts, Kylee Montgomery’s sacrifice and Shaya Kidder’s RBI single.
The Lady Trojans then scored the three decisive runs in the seventh.
Perry doubled and Ramey had an RBI single. Bautista followed with a two-run homer.
Chesapeake had a rally fall short in the bottom of the inning.
Swann began the inning with a double and scored on Chloe Handley’s double.
The Lady Panthers had two runners on but the next two batters were retired to end the game.
Tackett and Handley each went 2-4 with a double for the Lady Panthers.
