LATHAM — The Green Bobcats took care of business. And it was Tayte Carver who acted as though he had a business degree.
Carver went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in as Green blanked the Western Indians 12-0 in a five-inning Southern Ohio Conference game.
“We weren’t as sharp as we can be, but we did what we’re supposed to do and got the job done. We didn’t walk people and we kept hitting the ball well. Carver had a big game for us,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Bryce Ponn got the win as he allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked just one for Green (10-1, 5-0). Ponn also hit a two-run homer.
The Bobcats jumped in front 4-0 in the first inning.
Eli Webb singled, stole second and scored on Tanner Kimbler’s base hit.
Carver and Ponn walked and Levi Singleton had a two-run single. Mason Barber followed with an RBI single.
The lead went to 7-0 in the second when Webb and Carver doubled for a run and Ponn hit a two-run homer.
Three more runs scored in the fourth to make it 10-0.
Carver singled, Ponn and Singleton walked to load the bases and Barber hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in a run.
After a wild pitch, Mason Hensley hit a two-run single.
The final two runs scored in the fifth.
Webb — who was 2-3 on the day — reached on a missed third strike, Kimbler walked, a wild pitch moved the runners up and Carver drove in both runners with a base hit.
