FRANKLIN FURANCE — Tayte Carver was making his pitching debut of the season.
After his performance, now he’s got to wonder what he can do for an encore.
Carver pitched a one-hitter as the Green Bobcats blanked the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 11-0 in a five-inning Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
Carver needed just 59 pitches as he struck out 10 and walked one. Notre Dame’s only hit was a one-out single by Chris Schmidt in the fifth inning.
“Tayte Carver’s first outing of the season. He was throwing the ball hard. And he was very efficient. He threw strikes,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Green (7-1, 3-0) had 14 hits led by Bryce Ponn who was 3-4 with two triples and five runs batted in.
“Bryce Ponn had another big night just like he has been doing night after night all season,” said McDavid.
Green took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Eli Webb singled, stole second and scored on Carver’s base hit. Mason Barber reached on an error scoring Carver.
The lead went to 6-0 in the second.
Ethan Carpenter led off with a double and Tanner Kimbler had an RBI single. Carver was safe on an error and Bryce Ponn tripled to empty the bases and score on a hit by Levi Singleton.
The Bobcats put the game away with five runs.
Carpenter, Webb and Kimbler all singled for a run. Carver was a safe on an outfield error to load the bases and Ponn emptied the bases again with a three-run triple.
Singleton then capped the scoring with an RBI single.
Webb, Kimbler, Carver and Singleton were all 2-3 with Carpenter 2-2 and Barber 1-3.
