JACKSON — That was an example of a dominating performance.
The Chesapeake Panthers built a 28-point halftime lead and cruised past the Belpre Eagles 67-26 on Tuesday in the Division III sectional tournament.
Chesapeake plays Beaver Eastern at 6 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals. Eastern beat Wellston 63-38.
The Panthers (14-9) had nine players in the scoring column with three in double digits.
Tylan Hutchison had 14 points, Levi Blankenship scored 12 and Nathan Cox added 10 points.
Collin Alloway led Belpre (11-12) with seven points.
It didn’t take long for the Panthers to take control as they jumped out to an 18-3 lead.
Hutchison scored six points, Eli Archer four, and Nathan Cox and Josh Cox each hit 3-pointers. Nathan Cox also had a basket for five points.
Chesapeake put up another 18 points in the second quarter to stretch its lead to a comfortable 36-8 halftime cushion.
Nathan Cox had another triple and basket for five points in the quarter, Blankenship hit a trey and two foul shots and Archer had four more points.
The Panthers extended their lead to 56-19 after three quarters.
Hutchison had six more points, Austin Jackson got five and Blankenship added four.
Five different plays had baskets in Belpre’s most productive quarter.
