SEAMAN — Looks like these Dragons’ fire burns better than your Dragons’ fire.
In a battle of Dragons, Fairland beat West Union 43-29 on Saturday at the Dave Young Classic.
Fairland (11-4) used its discipline, slow down paced offense to limit West Union to just 28 field goal attempts. Fairland was efficient as usual with 16-of-35 shooting for 45.7 percent.
Jacob Polcyn had 11 points and six rebounds while Clayton Thomas got 10 points, three assists and two steals to lead Fairland. Ian Chinn added eight points while Gavin Hunt had six rebounds.
Bowan Tomlin had 11 points and five rebounds to pace West Union.
Fairland went up 10-6 in the first quarter as Aiden Porter and Thomas each hit 3-pointers. Tomlin had four points for West Union.
The game tightened in the second quarter as West Union got within 20-18 at the half as Tomlin and Cameron Campbell each hit from behind the arc. Chinn scored four points for Fairland.
In the third quarter, Fairland got some breathing room by holding West Union to seven points and taking a 32-25 lead. Porter scored four points, Thomas hit another trey and Polcyn had three points.
It was more defense in the fourth quarter as West Union managed only four points.
Matt Mondlak hit a trifecta, Polcyn had four points and Chinn was 2-for-2 at the foul line for Fairland in the quarter.
Fairland plays at Ironton in a key league game on Tuesday.
