COAL GROVE — There was no last-second shot needed this time.
After winning on a last-second shot by Baylee McKnight for a two-point win in the first meeting, the Coal Grove Lady Hornets made sure the outcome this time would be more decisive as they beat the Lincoln County Lady Panthers 73-48 on Monday.
McKnight again was a big determining factor in the outcome as she scored a career-high 22 points including three 3-pointers.
The Lady Hornets (11-2) had four players in double figures as Destiny Dolen scored 14, Lauren Crum 12 and Addi Dillow 10.
“Tonight, McKnight started where she left off,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach. “I told the girls I wanted them to show how much better we have improved since our last game with them and we did.
“Dillow did a great job getting the ball to our open kids and when she did, they scored. I really like how we are playing.”
Kiaura Henderson had 12 points and Carly McComas 11 for the Lady Panthers (6-5).
Dolen and Dillow scored four points each in the first quarter as Coal Grove took a 13-10 lead. Henderson had six for Lincoln.
The Lady Hornets caught fire in the second quarter as McKnight and Crum combined for 10 points and the lead was 35-17 at the half.
Lincoln County picked up its offense in the third quarter as McComas scored eight points, Graci Brumfield hit a 3-pointer and she and Henderson scored five points each.
But McKnight hit a trey and scored eight points with Dolen added four and Coal Grove held a 53-38 lead.
The Lady Hornets took control in the fourth quarter as McKnight drained two more triples and scored eight points while Dolen, Crum and Jaiden Griffith had four points each.
On Thursday, Coal Grove visits Portsmouth.
